Truth : By Swathi T

“Hello” said sadhana on the phone while checking her alarm clock.

“still sleeping? Get up madam, you have to go to office” said Aradhana on the other side of the phone.

“Yeah. Reached already!” said Sadhana from her phone in delhi

“yes, it takes only 1 hour to reach Mumbai by flight madam” said aradhana while walking out of the airport in Mumbai.

Just 3 and half hours back Aradhana left her home in delhi after spending a short vacation for diwali with her parents and twin sister Sadhana. Aradhana and Sadhana were born to Mr Ashok and Mrs Parvathi 28 yrs back almost after 12yrs of their marriage. After trying for many long years, Parvathi finally tried to go into a fertility treatment which resulted into two lovely daughters. Ashok had many small businesses during his prime days which they sold off after Ashok turned 60. He finally wanted to retire and enjoy his life with his childhood lover, his wife, Parvathi. They were neighbors when they were young and fell in love with each other when they were merely 12yrs and 10yrs respectively. They married each other against all odds and stood strong. They often told their love story with great flair to their twin daughters as they were growing up and now they often got bored hearing the same story again and again, and often found ways to escape. After Ashok turned 60, he decided that they want to move out of the city to a quite place. He finally decided that he want to spend rest of life in Shimla. Parvathi too liked the idea and was happy with the decision. Parvathi often suffered from asthma and Ashok wanted to take her away from all the pollution of the city. Ashok was handsomely rich guy and built a lavish home in shimla with a big lawn in front. Ashok was almost 70 now and Parvathi 68. Since past 10 years they haven been living in Shimla. Occasionally they came to Delhi to their old house, where now Sadhana lives all alone with one full time maid.

“Ok fine. It’s so boring to go to office after diwali holidays” said Sadhana with an yawn.

She got up at 4AM that morning to see off Aradhana when she took taxi to airport and again slept back. She loved being with parents and sister in this house where they grew up. She missed her parents a lot but understood their need.

“Yeah can’t help it right. I had a good sleep in the flight by the way, it was so boring” said Aradhana.

“Oh that means, you didn’t get any smart guy to talk to” smiled Sadhana.

“Yes there was a smart guy, but he was too smart for me!” said Aradhana rather irritatingly.

“Why!!” surprised Sadhana, because as far as she knows her, for Aradhana a smart guy is a smart guy.

“Because he was 12 year old boy and within first 5 mins of takeoff he was testing my GK by asking me all sorts of questions from geography to history” continued Aradhana and they both laughed before finishing the call.

She snuggled back in her bed and went back into thoughts looking at the photo of their family by the side of her bed. She wanted to rewind back to the time when they were all together. It used to be fun all the time then.

Till both sisters were 14 they both quarreled a lot but as they grew up they became close. They were both beautiful, tall at 5.6height which was more than average for an Indian woman and good features as their father’s. They both were identical but still anybody can easily differentiate them with their clothing, hair style, personality etc. Sadhana was always intelligent academically and Aradhana was creative in nature. The both pursued two different fields when they were in 12th. Sadhana took science and Aradhana took arts. Their parents were least bothered about their choice of fields because the only thing they wanted was that whatever field they choose they should be perfect in that. They were like their two sons and were very proud of them.

They often told them that you should become such a person in life that even though you loose all your money one day, you should have caliber to earn it all again. This kind of parenting led Aradhana and Sadhana to be fiercely competitive and career oriented.

Sadhana did somewhat reach her goal by now becoming a manager in a small upcoming multi- national IT firm. It was not an easy path for her. After finishing M.Tech in IIT she easily got a job as a software engineer in an IT firm. Then after working as Software engineer for 4 years, she wanted to advance herself. She then joined MBA part-time from IIM and aimed for managerial position. It was lot easier for her if she remained in technical side of the job but aiming for managerial position was tougher for her being a woman. She stood strong by all hurdles and finally succeeded to be a manager at the age of 28. She still receives lot of flak for being a manager from lot of her male colleagues. She struggled every day in office to prove her worthiness but she was determined that she won’t give up.

With all this running behind career, Sadhana was left without a soul mate. She never had time for love in her life. She was always busy with her career or studies. She never believed in puppy love and kind of love they showed on movies. She did go out with many guys in her life who were interested in her especially by her looks but soon stepped back when they came to know her as a person. She would never encourage any guy who would try to be too smart with her. Other guys were too afraid to make a relationship with a woman who was this career oriented and was least romantically inclined.

Aradhana on the other hand would fall for a man on the drop of a hat. She went to Mumbai to pursue her career as an actress. She tried hard to get into Indian School of Drama but failed. Initially she got some small roles in stage shows and then slowly went on to doing small character roles in TV serials. At 25 she was out of those TV serial offers too.

Though she was beautiful, she lacked that sensitivity which required for TV serials. Later she landed a job of PR manager in a reputed movie production company and finally loved her job. She got opportunity to meet the most beautiful of the film industry. She was good at her job. She wanted to settle down soon unlike her sister Sadhana but luck never favored. She even had a live-in relation with an upcoming model cum actor for few months but finally had to break off the relationship as the guy was two timing with other woman too. Most of the people in the industry she belonged were not faithful or committing enough to get married. Most of the upcoming models used to seduce or try to move faster with her so that she can land them a role. And once they got what they wanted, they would simply dump her. All this often lead to lot of heart brakes for her. Her parents and sister often insisted her to come back to Delhi and try something there but she loved the vibrancy of Mumbai. It’s been almost 7years since she’s been in Mumbai and loved every bit of it. She felt this is the only place where creative people can have a successful life. She made good money and even bought a decent flat with her own money.

Both sisters were not at all dependent on their parent’s money. They were too proud to ever ask or borrow money from their parents; it was how they were brought up.

Sadhana slowly got up and dragged herself to bathroom. In 15 minutes she was ready for office in her crisp cotton salwar suit. She came out to see her parents relaxing in the living room each holding a piece of newspaper with tea in their hands and discussing about some news.

“Goodmorning lovers!” said Sadhana coming out of her room.

“Goodmorning” said their parents in chorus looking at their beautiful daughter.

“Wait I will get tea for you” said her mom getting up.

“Its fine mom, I will have it in office anyway. I will just have a toast and leave. It’s getting late” said Sadhana moving towards the kitchen.

“Arey beta, you should have real tea sometimes. Your mom makes one of the best tea. Come sit here” said Ashok signaling her to sit with him.

Even after so many years of marriage they still looked at each other like newly married couple. They were madly in love with each other and years of marriage never came in between. Sadhana felt bit envious looking at her mom for having such a contended life. Since past one year Sadhana felt the need, for that someone special in her life. She never realized the importance of love till now.

“So how is your work nowadays?”asked Ashok comfortably putting his one hand around Sadhana.

“Its fine dad. Nothing new. Same old life, you know it” said Sadhana feeling comfortable with her dad.

“Hmm..Anybody special in your life nowadays?” said Ashok hoping Sadhana to get some positive response.

“No dad. I told you already, I will let you know if I find somebody” said Sadhana with slight irritation.

She wished like other normal Indian parents they would just find a groom for her through arranged marriage procedure. Finding a guy on her own seemed such a tough job for her. On the other hand Ashok and Parvathi always wanted that their daughters should themselves choose their life-partner. They sometimes wondered why it took so long for their two daughters to find someone special because they both were beautiful, intelligent and had successful career. They did decide that if their girls don’t find any life partner by the time they turn 30 then they will start finding a groom for them even though they hated the idea. Owing to their successful and happy marriage, they wanted their daughters to experience the same.

Sadhana’s company car came right on time to pick her up. She hugged her parents before leaving to office. They were to go back to Shimla that afternoon. Everybody in their family had the key of their Delhi house. Sadhana begged them to stay back for some more days but they promised her that they would come back by new year again.

On her way to office, Sadhana kept thinking about Aradhana, and wondered why she didn’t settle down yet. Unlike her, Aradhana was more romantic in nature and was lesser career oriented than her. She didn’t like the idea when Aradhana was in a live-in relationship at one time. She warned her many times and about its consequences. Aradhana took a promise from her that their parents should not know about her live-in relationship. That relationship didn’t last long and left Aradhana heart broken. Aradhana promised herself that she would never take that step again and was profusely guilty about it for a long-long time. Sadhana was by her during that time of depression. Since then Aradhana never had any serious boyfriend.

“Good morning Sadhana, how was the Diwali?” said Kavitha, her personal secretary while Sadhana was entering her office cabin.

“Good morning Kavitha, it was good, didn’t feel like coming to office today” said Sadhana smiling back at her.

“yeah I know. Its always like that. How are your parents and sister?” asked Kavitha walking along with her in the cabin.

“They are fine. Aru left to Mumbai in the early morning itself. Parents are going to leave today at afternoon. Its again me and only me all over again. Sometimes I just wish, I should resign and settle with my parents in shimla” said Sadhana somewhat sadly.

Kavitha just nodded and wished she finds somebody special soon.

“Any calls Kavitha?” said Sadhana coming back to reality.

“No calls. But I guess you remember that you have a meeting today at 10am” said Kavitha.

“Oh yes I remember. Nakul must be all prepared to pounce on me. Those people from Dubai haven’t yet responded anything” sighed Sadhana.

“Don’t worry Sadhana, I am sure you will get that project. You have been able to bring so many projects to this company” said Kavitha assuringly.

Sadhana submerged herself into the work and prepared herself for the meeting. Dubai’s shipping dock project was a big project. She worked hard for over 6 months to get that project but due to economic slowdown, they were taking long time to take decision. Nakul was her co-manager and both hated each other to the core. Before Sadhana became the manager, he was the only manager and had been associated with the company since long time. As the company grew, it needed one more manager and Nakul couldn’t digest the fact that Sadhana who was much younger and more over a woman was going to be his partner. Due to her good record in short time, she even got better salary than Nakul. Nakul tried hard to take the responsibility of Dubai project but instead CEO allotted the job to Sadhana. If Sadhana can successfully negotiate Dubai’s project, it would be a big turning point for the company as the project might go on for 5-6 years and it will generate lot of income to the company. With this project it can start concentrating on Asian market too. There was a lot of pressure on Sadhana. She has been to Dubai already 3 times for negotiations.

“Good morning everybody” said Mr Stephen, the CEO of the company when the meeting commenced sharp at 10.

“Well Sadhana, any progress in Dubai project?” asked CEO looking at Sadhana, once everybody was settled.

“Well Mr Stephen, I contacted Mr Rasheed Sheikh, a day before Diwali holiday, he said he will get back to me this week” said Sadhana with disappointment.

“Hmmm, why do you think, they are taking so much time in taking decision?” asked Stephen.

“I have no idea Mr Stephen, we have looked after all their demands and have been transparent in all our deals. We have even assured that we will hire best people to do the project” explained Sadhana pensively.

“Mr Stephen, I feel the problem is not about us accepting their demands, but letting them know how important this project is for their enterprise, how it is going to going to benefit them, reap profits for them” shooted Nakul tangently looking at Sadhana.

“Mr Nakul, I guess you know that we have been negotiating them since 6 months, and you have seen all our demos which we have given to them. So whatever points you are saying now has been taken care of” snuffed Sadhana

Meeting went on for 2hours with arguments from both sides exhausted Sadhana for the day. More than the project it was becoming difficult to stand on with Nakul. They were one time very good pals but since two years everything has changed. Competition changed everything.

“Hey Sadhana, you are still working?” said Kavitha while she prepared herself to go home by end of the day.

“Yeah!” said Kavitha with tired look.

“Its 8pm and half of the office has left!” said Kavitha coming into Sadhana’s cubicle.

“Well you are still there!” said Sadhana with a hint of smile “and I have lots of work to do”

“I was waiting for Manoj, he said he will pick me up and will directly go to a restaurant for dinner” said Kavitha brightly. Manoj was Kavitha’s boyfriend for past 1 year and were soon to be married.

“Oh I see!” said Sadhana “that’s why you have put back that red hot lipstick on your lips”.

“Yeah” responded Kavitha and both laughed like two college girls.

“Hey, Sadhana, this Friday Manoj is throwing a party to celeberate his promotion. Why don’t you too join us, it will be fun” said Kavitha.

“Oh no no, I cant come, I wont know anybody there besides I don’t like attending parties, you know that!” said Sadhana feeling sorry.

“C’mon Sadhana be a sport. Work is not everything in life. You know me and Manoj right and Manoj’s parties are always fun. And beside what are you going to do at home other than watching boring TV!” said Kavitha genuinely wanting Sadhana to have some fun. Kavitha also secretly hoped to hook up Sadhana with one of many friends of Manoj who are eligible bachelors. After half an hour of persuasion from Kavitha, Sadhana finally agreed to attend the party under two conditions that she wont be forced to dance and she is not going to wear any western outfit.

Nothing substantial happened in work front till Friday but the day of the Manoj’s party soon arrived. Sadhana hated herself for agreeing to attend the party. She knew Kavitha and Manoj will be in their own world once the party begins and she would have no company at all. Yet she cant step back now as Kavitha is the only person in delhi now whom she can call her true genuine friend. She managed to get herself ready in a simple silk printed salwar suit gifted by her mom. She put on a little nude color lip gloss which obviously was gifted to her by Aradhana. With no other makeup, lip gloss itself made her conscious. Kavitha volunteered to pick her up but Sadhana declined and drove her car to the venue.

Party was at a open roof top restaurant in one of the posh locales of Delhi. She could already hear the loud music from where she parked the car which was like 100 yards away from the restaurant. She bought a flower bouquet for Manoj. She tried reaching Kavitha on her mobile but obviously she was too busy in the party to hear her mobile ringing. Party was crowded already which included mostly couples. She was the only person who was wearing salwar kameez in the party. She felt awkward to come all alone and was wandering through the sea of people to get hold of Kavitha or Manoj. Somebody tapped her from the back and she turned to see Manoj standing there with a glass of wine in his hand.

“Hi Sadhana, so nice to see you here” said Manoj pleasingly.

“Hi Manoj, congrats for your promotion” said Sadhana handing over the bouquet “it seems Kavitha proved lucky for you”.

“Hey thanks, and yes you are right about Kavitha, she has been my lucky charm ever since I met her” said Manoj looking at the flowers.

“Hey guyssss” called out Kavitha from behind.

“Hi Kavitha” said Sadhana and winked at her looking at her mini skirt.

“Thank God you came, I was thinking you wouldn’t” said Kavitha holding her hand “come I will introduce you to some of my friends”. And dragged along Sadhana with one hand and Manoj in another. Kavitha went on introducing Sadhana to her friends mostly who were bachelors and single hoping somebody would show interest in her. But unfortunately nobody showed interest and for Sadhana, nobody was her type. She talked with few of them for a while and slowly whisked away in one corner while everybody danced on loud Punjabi music. She decided to go after half an hour as there was nothing else to do and was just sitting and silently sipping her coke looking at people dancing .

“Hi” said a male voice standing beside her chair.

She turned towards her left and drew her face up to see the guy if he was calling her or somebody else!

“Do you have a cell phone?” said the guy looking straight at her.

“umm ya” said Sadhana blankly.

“Oh, can I make a small call as my cell charge is over” said the guy.

She judged him for a second. He was tall and was wearing decent clothes.

“Ok here take it” said Sadhana, handing him her phone.

“Oh thank you so much” said the guy.

He took it and backed himself a little and dialed a number. He talked in a hushed voice covering his mouth with the hand. His call was over within a minute.

“Thank you so much again” said the guy.

“Its ok” said Sadhana.

“Its so loud in here. I didn’t want to come but Manoj forced me” said the guy taking a seat next to her.

Sadhana felt amused to see a person who had same thoughts.

“Did you come alone?” said Sadhana not sure if she should ask this.

“Yeah. I don’t know anybody else than Manoj. I am his colleague by the way and my name is Dileep” said Dileep trying to reach something in his shirt pocket. He took out a medicine and swallowed with a glass of water.

“Are you ok” said Sadhana looking concerned.

“Yeah just a little headache. I don’t like loud music at all. I came here with Manoj in his car but now I want to go back home. Unfortunately here you don’t get any autrorikshaws or buses nearby that’s why I tried calling a taxi from your phone. They said its going to take an hour for taxi to come here at this time of hour” sighed Dileep.

Sadhana was almost tempted to tell that she had her car and can drop him off but choose not to tell anything. She still didnt know much about hime to make that offer. They were silent for few minutes.

“How about you? Are you Manoj’s friend or Kavitha’s?” asked Dileep sipping in water.

“umm I am Kavitha’s friend, actually I am her colleague” said Sadhana.

“Oh I see and it seems you were too forced to come here. Am I not right?” asked Dileep smiling for first time.

Sadhana agreed with a smile. Unlike others in the party, he wore a neatly tucked in shirt with formal shoes.

“I met Kavitha couple of times. She is a gem of a person. Manoj is a lucky guy” said Dileep looking at people dancing in the middle of the restaurant.

“Yeah that she is” said Sadhana.

“So are you a computer programmer? I know Kavitha works for an IT company” said Dileep.

“umm not exactly, I am a Project Manager” said Sadhana.

“Oh wow, that’s interesting. Though I am from chemical background, computers always fascinated me” said Dileep brightening up.

“Infact I want to start my own chemical company implementing biotechnology into it” continued Dileep.

It was an easy conversation between both of them. Dileep talked about his dream for long as if he knew Sadhana since a long time. Sadhana too got involved as she saw Dileep was quite intelligent in his talk. She was happy that Dileep didn’t try to ask her name even once or got into more details about her personal life. They didn’t realize how the time went on after an hour Sadhana realized her phone was ringing.

“Hello” said sadhana.

“You asked for taxi, its waiting at your given address” said a voice from the phone.

“Oh” said Sadhana and handed the phone to dileep “seems your taxi has come”.

Dileep talked on the phone and gave it back.

“Ok its time to go. I am sorry If I got you bored, I sometimes go out of control when I talk about my dream” said Dileep getting up from his seat.

“No its fine, actually I enjoyed it. Umm I guess even I should leave now” said Sadhana while she too got up.

“Oh, how are you going to leave now, its 10 pm now. You can take my taxi if you want, I can call for another one” said Dileep somewhat concerned.

“No, actually I came with my own car” said Sadhana somewhat embarrassed.

“oh that’s great” said Dileep “It was nice talking to you Miss…umm”.

Dileep paused trying to recollect her name.

“Sadhana. Don’t worry I never told you my name” said Sadhana with a smile.

Dileep laughed back. “Ok then Sadhana, I will say my goodbye to Manoj and leave. Hope we will meet again. Drive home safe” said Dileep and gave a warm soft handshake before leaving. Sadhana was almost paralyzed with his touch. Its been ages since he talked to any guy other than her colleagues for a such a long time. She was totally impressed with Dileep and wished she knew more about him.

She reached home by 10.30 and thoughts of Dileep lingered in her mind. Just then her phone rang.

“Hey Dee, whats up I have been trying to reach you!” said Aradhana.

“Oh, when did u call?” said Sadhana frowning.

“About an hour ago, I was sick worried when you didn’t pick up” said Aradhana.

“Oh I was at a party at that time so couldn’t here your call and by the way I am as big as you, stop worrying” said Sadhana.

“What?? You were in party! Since when did you started attending parties?” frowned Aradhana.

“hmm, it was Kavitha’s fiancee’s party. She just forced me to come, so I had to go” explained Sadhana.

“oh I see, so how many minutes were you there then?” chided Aradhana knowing her 20 minutes elder sister.

“I was there for about an hour and half” said Sadhana surprising Aradhana.

“That long! What were you doing there, I am sure you didn’t know anybody else there” asked Aradhana anxiously.

“Well I was bored at the beginning but then” paused Sadhana.

“But then what?” asked Aradhana with desperation.

“Then I met a guy” smiled Sadhana imagining Aradhana’s surprised expression.

“A GUY! You met a guy!! Did you talk to him?? Oh my god I cant believe I am talking to my dee or did i dial a wrong number” said Aradhana with excitement.

“Stop it Aru, don’t imagine too much” said Sadhana playfully.

“Ok Ok. But tell me who this guy is?” asked Aradhana.

Sadhana went on telling him about Dileep and what all they talked.

“Oh my goodness, for 1 hour you guys were talking about chemicals!!! How romantic!” laughed Aradhana.

“Stop it Aru! He is an intelligent, decent, and focused man” said Sadhana not believing that she is talking so strongly about Dileep whom she just met.

“Oh it seems my Dee is totally impressed with Mr Dileep” remarked Aradhana.

“By the way how does he look?” continued Aradhana.

“He is tall and looks good. I liked his dressing sense. By the way I don’t know if he is single or married so don’t imagine much okey” warned Sadhana to Aradhana and to herself too.

They talked for a while and ended the call. Aradhana wished and hoped that Mr Dileep is the man for her sis. Sadhana wished she knew more about Dileep and wondered if she would ever get to meet him again.

On Monday work started as usual in office for Sadhana. Kavitha came in a bit late to office and directly entered Sadhana’s cabin.

“Hey Sadhana, good morning” said Kavitha brightly looking nothing like what she looked on the day of the party.

“Hey Kavitha. Good morning” said Sadhana.

“So how was Dileep?” asked Kavitha teasingly.

Sadhana went red and felt embarrassed as if she read her mind.

“I saw, you both were talking for so long on that day” continued Kavitha.

“Yeah, he was talking about his business which he wanted to set up, thats all.” said Sadhana trying to hide her feelings about Dileep.

“hmm ok. By the way he is Manoj’s colleague” said Kavitha.

“Yeah he told me” said Sadhana

“and he is widower” said Kavitha somewhat somberly.

“Oh!” exclaimed Sadhana feeling sorry as well as something she didn't expect for the man.

“Yeah, his wife died 3 years back it seems. Manoj told me that they fell in love, eloped and got married. Both the parents didn’t agree for the marriage. Unfortunately after 2years of marriage his wife became sick and died. He is a nice guy as per Manoj. Manoj wanted him to have some fun and that’s why forced him to come to the party” said Kavitha softely.

“Oh!” said Sadhana understanding why he felt so uncomfortable that day.

“So how did you find him?” asked Kavitha this time with more seriousness.

“He seemed a nice guy Kavitha. We didn’t talk anything much other than his business” said Sadhana drawing her thoughts back to the conversation they had that day.

“Sadhana if you want I can arrange a date for both of u!” said Kavitha hoping this alliance clicks.

“Date!! No No. Kavitha, that would be very embarrassing. I believe in fate. If we have to meet again, we shall meet” said Sadhana with a little stiff voice.

“hmm ok Sadhana. As you wish” said Kavitha softly and left the place.

Weeks went by. Tensions between Sadhana and Nakul grew in the office. Dubai project was getting delayed due to many reasons. Sadhana totally forgot about Dileep due to her office pressure.

After a month Sadhana got a call in her office intercom. It was Kavitha’s.

“Sadhana are you free now? Can you come down to our office cafeteria?” asked Kavitha.

“Yeah sure, I was feeling hungry any way. Will be there in a minute” responded Sadhana and ended the call.

As soon as she reached cafeteria, she noticed a guy sitting with Kavitha. It took a minute for Sadhana to realize that he was Dileep.

“Hi Sadhana” waved Dileep looking at Sadhana coming towards them.

“Hi” said Sadhana genuinely feeling happy to see him after all.

“He came to HSBC bank here in our building for some work and called me. So I invited him here and thought it would be nice if even you joined” explained Kavitha so that Sadhana doesn’t misunderstand that she was behind this meeting.

“Oh ok” said Sadhana frowning at how Kavitha explained.

“So how have you been?” asked Dileep looking at Sadhana.

“With the kind of pressure I have been having in office, thank god I am still in sane condition” replied Sadhana with a smile.

All three talked for a while. Sadhana came to know that he came to bank to talk about loan for his business. Sadhana tried to help him by telling that she knew somebody personally from the bank. This time they both exchanged each other’s contact numbers and Kavitha was glad with the progress.

On that day evening Dileep called on Sadhana and they both casually talked about each other’s work. Aradhana was surprised to know that Sadhana is actually showing interest on this man and was happy for her. The following weekend, both Dileep and Sadhana decided to meet at Sadhana’s uncle’s place who worked in HSBC bank. Sadhana’s uncle was also quite impressed with Dileep’s project details and assured them that he would do whatever he can for the loan he has applied.

Slowly Dileep was in contact with Sadhana on daily basis on phone. They talked for hours easily and were quite comfortable with each other. Sadhana found it very relaxing to talk to Dileep after the kind of pressure she had in office. They started talking about each other’s interests and tastes. Dileep also talked about his wife and how he missed her. Sadhana felt sorry for him and solaced him. After a month they started meeting frequently and Sadhana realized she was head over heels in love with Dileep. She knew Dileep had same feelings but they never tried to bring the subject of love between them.

It was soon going to be new year and Sadhana awaited for a family reunion once more. Just before Christmas, Dileep came to know that his loan got sanctioned. He threw a small party for Sadhana, Kavitha and Manoj at his home. On that day evening Kavitha and Manoj decided to leave early so that Sadhana and Dileep can have some time alone. Once they left Sadhana felt little shy as it was the first time she was staying in Dileep’s home alone. Her body went cold even though she had heavy sweater and shawl around her.

“Sadhana, are you ok?” said Dileep “if you want I can drop you off at home”.

“No, actually I am just feeling cold. You know how chilly its outside” said Sadhana with feeble smile.

They both felt silent for a while.

“Will you have tea? I make excellent tea by the way” said Dileep breaking the silence.

“Yeah sure I would love to” said Sadhana badly wanting tea to ease off the cold.

Dileep went to kitchen while Sadhana decided to scan his house. Sadhana noticed he didn’t keep his wife’s photo anywhere maybe that was too painful for him. After few minutes Dileep came back to living room with two cups of hot tea.

“Sorry my house is very messy” said Dileep looking at Sadhana who was walking around his room scanning things.

“Hey no. It looks fine, you should see my sister’s room, you will hardly find anything in its proper place” said Sadhana while taking the cup from his hand.

“Ummm, its been so long since I had this nice tea. You really are good at this” said Sadhana while sipping the tea.

“You know what my dad is also good at this, he makes tea everyday in the morning for my mom” continued Sadhana.

“How about, I make it for you too every day?” said Dileep looking at Sadhana.

It took a second for Sadhana to understand what Dileep asked.

“Sadhana, I wanted to ask this for a while. After Shikha passed away, I decided never to marry again but when I met you, something inside me said that you are Shikha’s incarnation. I might sound funny but this is true” said Dileep lowering his head not looking at Sadhana.

Sadhana felt silent and was again shivering. She put back her cup on the table not understanding how to react. She was waiting for this day but never thought that this is going to so difficult for her.

“Sadhana I know you must be thinking, being a widower, how cum I can ask you to marry me. I don’t want to force you Sadhana. I know your parents might have high hopes on your life partner. This is not easy for you. Take your time and reply back. Whatever will be your reply our friendship wont affect anyway. You will always remain most important person in my life after Shikha” said Dileep this time looking at Sadhana.

Sadhana couldn’t look at him for long time. This was the first time that anyone proposed her for marriage. She knew her parents wont object at all, they were too broadminded to object for a widower as their Son-in Law. As for Aradhana, she knew she would be ecstatic when she comes to know that Dileep proposed for marriage to her sis. She just didn’t knew how to say YES.

They both felt silent again.

“Do you know how to cook also? I am very bad in that” said Sadhana finally taking courage to show her agreement.

Dileep looked at her and laughed.

“Yes. I am not bad in that too” said Dileep taking her hand in his. Sadhana went red again with his tender touch.

Dileep took her in his arms and they both talked for a while before Dileep dropped Sadhana at her home. Sadhana promised she would talk to her parents before they come down on new year’s eve. Dileep was not in touch with his parents after he married Shikha, so their approval was not needed.

On that day night when Sadhana told Aradhana about Dileep’s proposal she jumped with joy. She couldn’t believe that this was actually happening, that one of them is going to be married soon. Both the sisters were excited with the new development and wanted to meet on New Year soon. Next day Sadhana declared the news to her parents too who were glad to hear the news. They were confidant on Sadhana’s choice and showed no disrespect for Dileep being a widower. Even Kavitha was happy to know the news and teased Sadhana that this was all due to her and that she should be given a special honour during their marriage. And as luck had to favor Sadhana finally got the Dubai project successfully making Nakul more envious.

Sadhana’s parents and Aradhana both arrived on 30th of December. She invited Dileep next day so that all can celebrate New Year together. Aradhana till date didn’t see Dileep’s photo, so was looking forward to see him, so were her parents. They had nice family time together. Sadhana too took leave from her office for another couple of days. Its been over 3 months since she met all of them again. On 31st, all three ladies of the house got busy cooking something nice for the dinner.

In the evening, Aradhana chose to wear a designer top and a full length skirt. Sadhana went with her comfort look and choose to wear chiffon salwar kameez. Around 7pm door bell rang and Sadhana went to open the door. Dileep stood there with a cake in his one hand and a chocolate gift pack in another. As it was cold outside he wore a sweater with jeans and looked his best. As he entered home and Sadhana introduced each other, Aradhana stood there spell bound. She almost missed a heart-beat looking at Dileep and how good looking he was. She was furious that Sadhana under estimated his good looks. She was confident that Dileep would give other male models a run for their money. His voice was to die for.

“Oh my god, you both have striking resemblance” said Dileep looking at both the sisters.

“yeah” both said in unison.

“Here, these chocolates are for you Aradhana. Your sister said you love chocolates more than her” said Dileep giving her the chocolate he bought for her and smiled at Sadhana.

“Thanks Dileep” said Aradhana smiling back.

While Sadhana’s parents talked with Dileep, both the sisters went to kitchen to bring some snacks.

“My God dee, he is sooooo handsome, you are soooo lucky” said Aradhana with excitement.

“Thanks” said Sadhana pleasingly.

“And look at you, how come you can dress in this boring way with a boyfriend like that” said Aradhana somewhat annoyed.

“He is not from your Mumbai ok. And he likes me as I am” retorted Sadhana.
Both fought with words for a while and got back into living room with the snacks and smiling faces. All five chatted along till it was dinner time. All three members of the family were totally impressed with Dileep and his mannerisms. Aradhana found it difficult to withdraw her eyes from Dileep. Sadhana’s dad Mr Ashok asked if they can make a contact with his parents to talk about marriage for which Dileep declined saying he is not in touch with them since 4 years after he married Shikha and there are chances that they might insult him which he didn’t want. He said they never cared to call back when Shikha died, not even Shikha’s parents and he hated them for that. Everybody felt sorry. After dinner they all sat together and played cards till it was 12 am. When the clock ticked 12, Dileep hugged everybody warmly and conveyed new year greetings. When he hugged Aradhana, she was awestruck with his tender touch and warmth. Words didn’t come out of her mouth while she was supposed to wish back. Dileep left a little before 1 AM and Aradhana couldn’t sleep that night. She was totally drawn towards Dileep.

“That would be great. Chalo, I got to go, will talk to you soon. Takecare” said Dileep and ended the call.

Generally she used to call Sadhana as soon as she reached Mumbai but today she didn’t feel like calling her. She was guilty as well as angry with her own self. Just then when she took the cab Sadhana called her.

“Hey Aru, why didn’t you call after reaching mumbai?” said Sadhana with concern.
“I was about to call but just then Dileep called” lied Aradhana.

“Oh ok. Call me in the night, I got to go now, Dileep is coming to pick me up” said Sadhana thus making Aradhana more jealous.

Days passed by. Sadhana made herself busy with shopping, she never shopped this much in her entire life. Kavitha was great help. With Kavitha’s persistence she even got a bridal makeup appointment for the D day in a reputed parlor. Sadhana decided to move into Dileep’s house after marriage. They both even started the renovation of their house according to their taste. Aradhana’s calls to Sadhana declined though she kept in touch with Dileep. Sometimes she used to talk to him for hours. Though Dileep rarely called Aradhana, it was Aradhana who called Dileep more. Sadhana felt good when she came to know about their calls and was cool about it. 2 weeks before marriage Sadhana’s parents and Aradhana arrived. Most of the marriage work was done by Sadhana and Dileep themselves as Sadhana’s parents were old and they didn’t want them to give them much work. Dileep was proving to be the son which Sadhana’s parents never had. It was Aradhana who kept aloof from all the hustle bustle of marriage arrangements. She felt guilty whenever she talked to her sis and blushed whenever Dileep was with her. It was becoming way too difficult for her to hide her feelings she had for Dileep. Sadhana did notice a change in Aradhana’s behavior and asked if there was any trouble facing her. When Sadhana discussed with her parents about Aradhana’s behaviour, her parents dismissed that may be she is feeling overwhelmed as she is getting married.

Marriage was held in a simple ceremony in a temple and later they gave a reception in a hotel. It was well attended by over 200 guests most of them whom were Sadhana’s and her parents acquaintances. They both decided for their honeymoon in Goa.

Sadhana wanted to go to Munnar which was quieter place in comparison but Dileep was more interested in Goa so Sadhana gave in.

After spending five most memorable days in Goa, Sadhana couldn’t have been more happier. Goa wasn’t the kind of place Sadhana liked but spending time with Dileep and becoming ONE deeply impacted Sadhana. The new couple decided to surprise Aradhana by planning to visit Mumbai before going back to Delhi.

As expected Aradhana was more at discomfort than being pleasantly surprised when her sister and Dileep arrived at her apartment. The sun-tan on Sadhana’s face, her glow, her wedding bangles, the way she moved closely with Dileep holding his hands was killing Aradhana. They arrived on Saturday morning and were planning to fly back by Sunday evening. Aradhana tried to sneak out for few hours telling them she had some work meanwhile the newly wedded roamed around Mumbai and did little shopping. By evening everybody were back in the apartment. Aradhana was unusually silent and Sadhana was bit disappointed and surprised in this sudden unusual change in Aradhana’s behavior. She didn’t even try to press her to know the reason behind her aloofness in Dileep’s presence and thought of dealing with that later on phone. She however wished that Aradhana too should settle down. While they were at home, Aradhana tried her best not to look at Dileep or converse with him when alone.

The next day morning after Aradhana took bath, she decide to put on maxi rather than her usual shorts as her sis and Dileep were there. Dileep was out to bring some eggs for the breakfast. Sadhana was trying to put together some breakfast in the kitchen. Aradhana went to the other bedroom where Dileep and Sadhana slept the previous night to take some of her stuff. Just then Dileep came and hugged Aradhan tight from the back and tried kissing her neck from the back.

“Hey, I love when you leave your hair open” said Dileep lovingly.

Aradhana was paralyzed for a second and when she realized that Dileep was misunderstanding her as Sadhana she was perplexed with the situation. Her heart didn’t want to let Dileep know that she is not sadhana but her mind was burdened with conscience.

“Dileep..Dileep..its me..Aradhana” said Aradhana finally trying to fiddle out of Dileep’s tight grip.

“Oh ..I..I am sorry” said Dileep distancing himself.

“I..I got confused. I should have been careful” said Dileep lowering his eyes with embarrassment.

Aradhana left the room silently before Dileep could talk more. She went and locked herself in her other bedroom and tears rolled down. She didn’t know why she was crying. Dileep’s kiss on her neck left Aradhana asking for more. She cursed God, for bringing such thoughts in her mind about Dileep who is her sister’s husband. She always believed that her and her sister’s tastes were entirely different but never did she think that she would fall for the same man which her sis loved.

By Sunday afternoon Sadhana sensed that Aradhana was hiding something from her and she was not comfortable with their visit. They left to airport very early much to Aradhana’s relieve. In the past whenever Sadhana visited Mumbai, Aradhana used to persist her to stay back for few days more but this time there was no such sign. Sadhana at one time even felt guilty that may be she should have given time to her own marriage until Aradhana too found someone but it was late.

Life became hectic for Sadhana with house-hold work and office. She wanted to quit her job for sometime as she became very tired but Dileep didn’t like the idea. Dileep frequently toured because of his business dealings.

Aradhana was still in her unusual way and she often quarreled with Sadhana if Sadhana tried to probe about her personal life. Sadhana was very upset and at the same time worried for her twin sister. Their parents assured Sadhana that her sister would come around soon, and she is big enough to handle her problems. Upon her parents insistence Aradhana even came to Shimla to stay with them for few days but she soon got restless there and longed to go back to mumbai. She assured her parents that everything was ok and she just needed time.

After four months of Sadhana’s marriage, Aradhana decided to pursue fashion designing course in Paris which one of her friend recommended. She thought it was good idea to put her mind into constructive use and she always wanted to visit Europe. She enrolled into a short term course and she was easily selected. She even got the visa within a month. She later told the news to her parents who in turn told the news to Aradhana. Upon hearing the news Sadhana was more upset that she is going to go more far away and decided to give a call.

“Hello Aru” said Sadhana with upsetting voice.

“Hi Dee” said Aradhana with no excitement as before.

“Heard you are going to Paris!” said Sadhana.

“Yes” said Aradhana.

“You never cared to tell me!” said Sadhana with equal displeasure.

“I was about to give a call” said Aradhana with annoyance.

“When? After reaching Paris?” asked Sadhana sarcastically.

“Look dee, I was busy, I am sorry” said Aradhana now with anger.

“Yes you have been busy ever since my marriage. You get time to tell mom & dad but you didn’t get 2 minutes of time for me” said Sadhana with pain.

“Please dee, don’t start this all over again. I said I am sorry. By the way I am leaving two weeks from now” said Aradhana not wanting to argue with her.

“Two weeks!! But Aradhana, why do you want to suddenly venture into fashion designing when you were always interested in acting” said Sadhana genuinely not understanding her decision.

“Dee the course is just 6 months and I always had interest in fashion. You know my career in acting is not going anywhere so wanted to try this” said Aradhana calmly.

“But why Paris? You could have easily got admission in NIFT in india itself. Why to go that far?”asked Sadhana with concern.

“Look Dee. That’s enough. You don’t have to bother about my life. I never interfered in whatever decisions you took and you never once cared to ask my opinion so I would be happy enough if you leave my decisions upon me. By the way we both are of equal age and I don’t see why you have to so concerned. I am 29 and I know what is best for me” said Aradhana loosing her cool.

Sadhana was surprised by her twin sister’s reaction. She was taken aback and didn’t know how to react. Her eyes filled with tears but she tried hard not to show it in her voice. She was always protective about Aradhana like an elder sister all these years though she was just 20 minutes older.

“Sorry Aru, I didn’t mean that. I know you are big enough. Its just that we will miss you” said Sadhana wanting to cool down her sister.

“I will be fine Dee. I got to go now. Bye” said Aradhana desperately wanting to end her call.

At first Paris impressed Aradhana. Fashion scene in Paris was totally different from India. It was a much competitive world than in Mumbai. Though her course was in English but slowly she understood that to survive there she got to learn French too. She lived in shared apartment with one of his Indian classmate who was much younger to her. Infact almost all her classmates were much younger but that didn’t deter her interest from doing the course. She missed Mumbai/india but personally it was helping her to forget about Dileep. Her mind was focused on other things. Its been long time since she left college and she again got a chance to be a student again. She was at ease but was still uncomfortable to talk with Sadhana.

After 2 months, one day she got a call when the clock ticked 12 in the night.

“Hello” shouted Aradhana without looking at the number on her phone.

“Hi Aru, Happy birthday!” said Sadhana from the other side for whom it was already morning.

“Oh hi dee” said Aradhana coming out of her deep sleep and looked at the time. She was surprised that she forgot her birthday this time.

“Thanks and same to you dee” continued Aradhana finally trying to wake up from her bed.

“Thank you” said Sadhana, paused and then continued “How are you Aru? After many years we both are not together on our birthdays”.

“Yeah. I am fine dee. Just been very busy with the course and French language speaking classes in the evening” said Aradhana.

There was a long awkward silence between them.

“When will you come to India?” said Sadhana.

“Its been just 2 months dee since I came here. May be after couple of months” said Aradhana.

“Ok. Takecare of yourself Aru. Eat well. Sleep well. We all miss you here. I miss you” said Sadhana with tears rolling down her cheeks.

On hearing this Aradhana’s eyes too filled with tears and wanted to hug her sister but there was a wall built between them by Aradhana herself. She needed more time.

“Ok dee, enjoy your birthday with Dileep. Bye” said Aradhana. It took long time for Aradhana to sleep back again.

Ten days later.

“Aru beta” said Mr. Ashok, her dad on the phone while she was just about to go out for her classes.

“Come home immediately” continued Mr. Ashok with trembling voice.

“Dad I told I will come as soon as I get break, please don’t force my like this” said Aradhana with irritation.

“Sadhana..” cried Mr Ashok.

“Sadhana what?” said Aradhana her heart pounding.

“She died today due to heart attack. She is no more beta. Your sister is no more” said Mr Ashok crying out loudly.

“I am coming” said Aradhana and ended the call without hearing her dad.

“Was it a joke? Is she dreaming some bad dream?” were the thoughts of Aradhana.

She didn’t move na inch from where she was standing. It took full five minutes to realize what just happened. She wanted to call back her parents and find out if her dad really called just now. But she couldn’t dare. She ran out of her house picking few clothes and passport. She took the cab to airport and booked the immediate flight available for Delhi. Luckily a flight was available within an hour and half. She was in trance. She still thought that this was all dream. They just called her so that she can visit them. May be they all wanted to tease her and surprise her. She reached delhi late in the night and she took a cab to her home. There was nobody there, and then she again redirected her taxi to Dileep’s apartment. She still hoped she was in dream when her dad called but no it wasn’t she saw huge number of people flocked around the Dileep’s apartment.

She slowly moved through the crowd to see her sister calmly sleeping on the ground with a white sheet wrapped till her neck. She couldn’t here any other noises from the room just her sister’s.

“Aru, I will miss you” “Aru did you eat properly today” “Aru be careful” “Aru don’t worry everything will be fine” “Aru you deserve more” “Aru come back to india” “Aru…….” Were the voices revolving around Aradhana.

“Aru beta” said her dad tapping her from the back.

She turned around and collapsed on her dad’s hands. A little late somebody sprinkled some water on her head and she came back into senses. She looked at her sister again. No it wasn’t joke. It was realty. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She cried loudly as she held her mom tight like a small baby.

During her sister’s funeral rites, Aradhana came to know that her sis collapsed suddenly while in the office. She was rushed to hospital from there and by the time she reached hospital, it was very late. Fortunately Dileep was in town but it was another big blow for him. Dileep fainted twice when he came to know the news. He didn’t talk to anybody but was constantly blaming himself for Sadhana’s death. He said he knew that she was facing lot of pressure in office due to big responsibilities and that she wanted to quit her job. He said she had to continue the job because of him. He said he was cursed by God. Aradhana’s parents didn’t know how to console him; grief struck him twice within a short span. Aradhana couldn’t see the pain she saw in Dileep’s eyes.

Ashok, Parvathi and Aradhana stayed at their home in delhi and visited Dileep daily. After a month since Sadhana’s death, her parents decided to go back to Shimla. Aradhana decided to stay back for a week and then leave to Paris. She wanted to visit Dileep once before leaving to Paris. On the weekend when Dileep was at home, she went to the apartment. To her shock, Dileep was drinking whiskey.

“Oh my god Dileep, don’t do this to yourself” said Aradhana.

“What is left to do Aradhana. God wants to give punishment” said Dileep. He didn’t comb his hair was wearing a white t-shirt and shorts.

“Please Dileep, you should not think that way. You have got your full life ahead. You have your business” said Aradhana trying to clear the table.

“Lets go out and have lunch” continued Aradhana sitting besides Dileep on his sofa.

Dileep sat back and stared back at Aradhana. Aradhana didn’t understand his look. He then came closer and lifted his both hands and put it around Aradhana’s face. Dileep’s touch sent a shiver to Aradhana but she didn’t move.

“you…you look so much like Sadhana” said Dileep observing her closely.

He kept on tracing Aradhana’s face with his hands and tried to pull back her hair falling on her face. Aradhana was wearing Salwar suit ever since Sadhana’s death. She had a shorter hair than Sadhana but on a day like this nobody can differentiate her from Sadhana. Aradhana lowered her eyes as Dileep touched her facial features but she was totally aroused. Dileep slowly came more nearer and locked his lips with hers pulling her more closer and putting his hands around her body. For Aradhana, it felt as if she was in another world. She didn’t notice anything non-ethical, she just knew that she wanted this. Wanted this from long time. Just as Dileep tried to pull her duppatta out, Aradhana came back to her senses.

“Dileep..dileep…i..i am aradhana not Sadhana” said Aradhana trying to pull back her dupatta.

Dileep suddenly retracted back.

“I am sorry. God. Go away Aradhana. Go away before I do something stupid again. Don’t ever come back again” said Dileep burrowing his head in his hands not looking at Aradhana.

Tears filled in Aradhana’s eyes. She could not believe how much she loved Dileep. She thought she removed him from her mind but no she was wrong. She understood Dileep will be devastated if he was left alone with nobody in his life. She wanted to be there for him.

“Dileep, I love you” said Aradhana amidst the tears.

Dileep looked up and turned around to see her.

“I know dee just passed away and this is not the right time but you were always a special person for me. I fell in love with you the day I saw you first time but at that time I was wrong. I was constantly guilty. I was not able to tell this to dee too. To get away from all the guilt I left to Paris so that I can forget about the feelings I had for you. But today when you kissed me, I realized how much I still love you. Dileep I cannot live without you” said Aradhana finally submitting herself to Dileep.

“You have gone mad Aradhana. Just leave now” shouted Dileep getting up from there.
“Dileep I want to marry you” said Aradhana getting up as well.

“Aradhana you will you leave now or shall I go?” said Dileep again.

“Ok I will leave Dileep but let me tell you this. If I were to ever marry a person then that would be you otherwise I will never marry anybody else in this life. I am leaving to Paris on coming Tuesday. Give me your reply by then” declared Aradhana and walked out of her apartment.

On Sunday Dileep didn’t call back Aradhana but her parents gave a call. Aradhana’s mom sensed that she has been crying and enquired about it. At first she tried to hide from her mom but later she blurted out. Parvathi was shocked to know about the fact that Aradhana loved Dileep. She was upset for a while when she came to know but later, she understood her emotions. She didn’t do anything wrong when Sadhana was alive but now when Sadhana is gone, she felt what is wrong if Aradhana wanted to marry Dileep. They were all fond of him and know that he needed somebody in his life. He is too young to lead life alone. Parvathi assured Aradhana that they would talk to Dileep regarding this and asked her to have patience as Dileep is going through bad time. Aradhana understood.

On Monday morning Aradhana decided that she should move things slowly and not pressurize Dileep into a relationship so soon. She thought of checking him out once more before leaving to Paris and got ready when somebody knocked her door.
She opened the door to see a tall, well built stranger in front of her with a old woman on his side. Though he wasn’t good looking at first sight but had sharp eyes.

“Are you related to Miss Sadhana?”asked the guy.

“Yes, I am her twin sister” replied Aradhana trying to recollect if she knew them.

“oh ok. I am Girish and she is my aunt, Saraswati” said Girish introducing himself and the lady.

“umm..can we come in for a while, we have to talk something regarding your sister” said Girish.

“Yes sure. Please come in” said Aradhana and invited them in.

“So what is it about?” said Aradhana while serving them water “Did you know my sister?”

“No she doesn’t know us” said Girish “but..”

“But..but what” said aradhana not understanding why he was hesitating.

“We have some vital information about her death” said Girish.

Aradhana was shocked for a second.

“I don’t get you. What vital information?” asked Aradhana.

“Her death was not due to natural causes but was murdered” said Girish softly.

“Whatttt..are you mad? She died in front of 100 people in her office, how can she be murdered?” said Aradhana angrily.

“Did your sister ever have any serious health problems?” asked Girish.

“Never as of I know” replied Aradhana

“Then how come all of a sudden she gets heart attack at an young age of 29” questioned Girish.

“See. I don’t know who you are and why you came here? But let me tell you, she was going through lot of office pressure during that time. May be the stress caused her heart attack and doctors told us that nowadays many youngsters are getting attacked by heart attack in early age due to competition” said aradhana annoyingly.
“May I know your name miss” asked Girish.

“Aradhana” came the reply from her.

“Aradhana, I am a private detective” said Girish taking out his visiting card and giving it to her to verify.

“My aunt here, is none other but Shikha’s mother, Dileep’s first wife and Shikha is my first cousin” continued Girish.

“Oh” said Aradhana surprisingly.

“It might come as a surprise to you but Shikha too died of heart attack. She was just 25 when she died. She was hale and healthy person and it was difficult to believe that she could die at such a young age due to heart attack” said Girish.

“What are you trying to tell?” said Aradhana with anxiety.

“Its very clear, Dileep was behind both the deaths or I should say murders” said Girish.

“No I cant believe it” said Aradhana with shock.

“Aradhana, me and aunty have been following Dileep very closely since 3 years. Infact I started my detective agency through this case only. We have lot of evidences to prove it but we were waiting for one strong evidence and that we got when we heard the news of your sister’s death” said Girish.

“What evidence?” asked Aradhana still in disbelief.

“I actually pulled my strings and got the blood samples of your sister after her death and sent to forensic lab with the help of my friend. After some research, we found out that both Shikha and Sadhana had some kind of chemicals in their body which is same. They both had same patterns of arsenic elements which is nothing but a kind of poison which slowly induces health problems or heart attack in the person when taken in less doses” said Girish.

Aradhana sat in silence.

“As you know Dileep is chemical engineer by qualification and he has lot of knowledge about chemicals. My guess is that he used to give both Shikha and Sadhana small doses of that chemical in their food or by other means” continued Girish.

“But why would he do that?” asked Aradhana almost in the verge of tears.

“For money!” came the simple reply from Girish.

“For Money?” frowned Aradhana.

“Yes. Let me tell you some background of Dileep. He is actually a born orphan but was later adopted by Mr and Mrs Roshan Gupta. They already had a son but were unable to conceive second time and so thought of adopting Dileep. As Dileep grew up he understood that he was an orphan. Mr and Mrs Roshan had their own chemical business. As their kids grew up, most of the business was administered by Dileep’s elder brother which Dileep couldn’t digest. He wanted a major share which he didn’t get. He ultimately cut ties with them and wanted to set up his own business. This was when he met Shikha in a party. Shikha belonged to a rich family and she was younger of 2 daughters. He trapped Shikha in his love game and persuaded her to marry him but Shikha parents were dead against the marriage because Dileep had no job and had no money at all at that time. Dileep then proposed to elopement as he gave impression to Shikha that his parents were also against whereas the truth was they didn’t knew anything about the girl. Once they married, Dileep understood that he wont get any money from her parents as he feared all may go to her elder sister. Shikha didn’t want to have any kind of relationship with her parents. So he made another plan. He bought a life insurance on the name of Shikha for a sum of Rs 20 lakhs just 2 months after their marriage. 8 months later she died of heart attack and he got all the life insurance money” said Girish.

“But ..but why would he kill my sister? He already had good business and Sadhana earned good money too” asked Aradhana.

“Well that is what you think! Actually I even did some research on that part. When he got 20 lakhs from insurance, he blew most of them away with all his bad habits” said Girish.

“Bad habits?” asked Aradhana again with surprise.

“He frequented bars and brothels. Also he lost lot of money in underground gambling. Here look at these photos” said Girish and offered her some photos which showed Dileep in bars, with prostitutes and gambling.

Aradhana was once again shocked.

“These photos are the recent ones after he married your sister. I even came to know that his business was not going great either which led to many fights between your sister and him. This was confirmed from his neighbours who could hear their shouts every other day. He already had life insurance policy made on Sadhana soon after marriage. I am guessing Sadhana might have caught his philandering ways or wanted quick money. So, he played his old game again on Sadhana too” said Girish with a sigh.

“Yes beta, he is very clever. When Shikha died he didn’t allow any of us to come and see her. He gave a very wrong picture about us. I couldn’t believe that Shikha died due to heart attack. Luckily during Shikha’s autopsy some blood was drawn and saved. Girish has helped my family since these 3 years with all the investigation” said Saraswati for the first time with tears.

“After Shikha’s sudden death we were shattered. We later came to know that Dileep’s parents were never aware about our daughter. That is when I with Girish’s help started investing. When we heard the news of your sister’s sudden death our doubts were confirmed. He is a murderer and should be hanged to death” continued Saraswati crying.

Aradhana by now was totally blown away with THE TRUTH. Dileep’s true character brought shocking revelation to Aradhana. Her sister was murdered. A cloud of guilt casted on Aradhana’s mind when she realized that may be she would have known about her sister’s ongoing tensions then with Dileep and the state of his business had she been more open to Sadhana before her death.

“By the way, Sadhana was pregnant when she died” said Girish.

“What! Oh god!” cried Aradhana openly suddenly waking up to the fact that her sister was murdered and also that she was pregnant at the time.

“Aradhana, if you and your family are with us, then we can fight the case” requested Girish.

5 years later.

“Mommy, Get up” said Sadhana, 14 month old daughter of Aradhana while sneaking into her bedroom.

“What is it beta?” said Aradhana waking up from her sleep.

“Happy birthday mommy” said Sadhana giving her mom a hand-made greeting.
Since 5 years Aradhana stopped celeberating her birthday. It was very painful for her. Dileep was given a double life sentence by the high court just a month back. For 5 years Aradhana, her parents, Shikha’s parents and Girish ran around courts for several times. Aradhana never went back to Paris again and settled down in her home in Delhi. 2years back she married Girish. For Girish, it was love in first sight but for Aradhana it took long time to come out of her sister’s tragedy.

“Thank you beta” said Aradhana and hugged her little daughter. Tears rolled down her cheeks.

“Happy birthday dee. I miss you” came the inner voice from Aradhana.
