Ideal Marriage : By Uma D
Ridhima and Geeta were friends.. best of the kind.. went to school together.. college together and then Geeta got married...
Ridhima was crestfallen - why oh why do girls have to leave and relocate to their husbands place - why can't the guys move and then the society talks of Equality.
6 months of phones and letters later Ridhima got engaged - she was not magnetically attracted to Rakesh but then he was working in DRDO Delhi and Geeta's husband Shasidhar was there....enough reasons for Ridhima to approve the match.. and the parents were really relieved..
Ridhima was now suddenly happy that girls go to their husband's homes after marriage - talk of hypocracy.. she was more excited about being together with Geeta than the marital bliss that was to follow.
Life moved on just like any other couple - the respective pairs were happy. Ridhima slowly started appreciating the human being within Rakesh and they were happy couples.
Geeta was blessed with Krishna and Ridhima was blessed with Vinod. Krishna was 3 months older to Vinod.
It was as if the heavenly abode has passed on the friendship to the children. They were always together. Eating and Sleeping - the entire society assumed they were actually glued to each other. They were also in the same class and so on.
After their 12th Krishna went on to do IIT and Vinod started a course in fashion designing.
Couple of years down the line one day when they were discussion marriage then the unexpected happened.....
Krishna and Vinod declared they wanted to marry each other - all hell broke loose.
Geeta and Ridhima did not have the guts to face each other.. how oh how will they face the society.
India was not still so advanced.. apart from background differences like Geeta being an Andhraite and Ridhima being a North Indian there were other barriers to be seen. How will the parents answer their societies and the rest of the world.
This was too shocking - Geeta and Ridhima finally confided in Geeta's granny who was going strong at 95 and was their best secret pal.
What Granny said shocked them - "You can’t stop them. They have been together since they were kids. If they developed such feelings it’s the decision of fate - you are not to blame. Moreover they are majors now. Either you agree or you get distant from your kids. Also, things will change as they start living together.”
With little choice and since they loved their kids they gave in and finally
The wedding invitation was printed
"Krishna Kumar Weds Vinodini"
With Blessings from
Geeta Krishnan and Shashidhar Krishnan
And
Ridhima Arora and Rakesh Arora
..........................................................The End..................................................................
